Chapter 119
How blessed are those whose way is blameless, R3778 F1318 Who walk R3779 in the law of the LORD. 2 How blessed are those who observe R3780 His testimonies, Who seek R3781 Him with R3782 all their heart. 3 They also do R3783 no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways.
You have ordained R3784 F1319 Your precepts, That F1320 we should keep them diligently. 5 Oh that my ways R3785 may be established To keep R3786 Your statutes! 6 Then I shall R3787 not be ashamed When I look upon F1321 all Your commandments.
I shall give R3788 thanks to You with uprightness of heart, When I learn Your righteous judgments. 8 I shall keep Your statutes; Do not forsake R3789 me utterly!
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping R3790 it according to Your word.
With all R3791 my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander R3792 from Your commandments.
Your word I have treasured R3793 in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach R3794 me Your statutes.
With my lips I have told R3795 of All the ordinances R3796 of Your mouth. 14 I have rejoiced R3797 in the way of Your testimonies, As F1322 much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate R3798 on Your precepts And regard F1323 Your R3799 ways. 16 I shall delight R3800 F1324 in Your statutes; I shall not R3801 forget Your word.
Deal R3802 bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law.
I am a stranger R3803 in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.
My soul is crushed with R3804 F1325 longing After Your ordinances at all times.
You rebuke R3805 the arrogant, the F1326 cursed, R3806 Who wander R3807 from Your commandments.
Take R3808 away reproach and contempt from me, For I observe R3809 Your testimonies.
Even though princes R3810 sit and talk against me, Your servant meditates R3811 on Your statutes.
Your testimonies also are my delight; R3812 They are my F1327 counselors.
My soul R3813 cleaves to the dust; Revive R3814 me according R3815 to Your word.
I have told of my ways, and You have answered me; Teach R3816 me Your statutes. 27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts, So I will meditate R3817 on Your wonders.
My soul R3818 weeps F1328 because of grief; Strengthen R3819 me according to Your word. 29 Remove the false way from me, And graciously grant me Your law.
I have chosen the faithful way; I have placed F1329 Your ordinances before me. 31 I cling R3820 to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame! 32 I shall run the way of Your commandments, For You will enlarge R3821 my heart.
Teach R3822 me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, And I shall observe it to the end. 34 Give R3823 me understanding, that I may observe R3824 Your law And keep it with R3825 all my heart.
Make me walk in the path R3826 of Your commandments, For I delight R3827 in it. 36 Incline R3828 my heart to Your testimonies And not to dishonest R3829 gain.
Turn away my eyes R3830 from looking at vanity, And revive R3831 me in Your ways.
Establish R3832 Your word F1330 to Your servant, As F1331 that which produces reverence for You.
Turn R3833 away my reproach which I dread, For Your ordinances are good.
Behold, I long R3834 for Your precepts; Revive me through Your righteousness.
May Your lovingkindnesses R3835 also come to me, O LORD, Your salvation according R3836 to Your word; F1332 42 So I will have an answer R3837 for him who reproaches R3838 me, For I trust in Your word.
And do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, For I wait R3839 F1333 for Your ordinances. 44 So I will keep R3840 Your law continually, Forever and ever.
And I will walk R3841 at F1334 liberty, For I seek R3842 Your precepts. 46 I will also speak of Your testimonies before R3843 kings And shall not be ashamed. 47 I shall delight R3844 F1335 in Your commandments, Which I love. R3845 48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments, Which I love; R3846 And I will meditate R3847 on Your statutes.

This is my comfort R3848 in my affliction, That Your word has revived F1337 me.
The arrogant utterly R3849 deride me, Yet I do not turn R3850 aside from Your law.
I have remembered R3851 Your ordinances from of F1338 old, O LORD, And comfort myself.
Burning indignation R3852 has seized me because of the wicked, Who forsake R3853 Your law.
Your statutes are my songs In the house of my pilgrimage. R3854
O LORD, I remember R3855 Your name in R3856 the night, And keep Your law. 56 This has become mine, That F1339 I observe R3857 Your precepts.
The LORD is my portion; R3858 I have promised F1340 to keep R3859 Your words.
I sought R3860 Your favor with R3861 all my heart; Be R3862 gracious to me according R3863 to Your word. F1341
I considered R3864 my ways And turned my feet to Your testimonies. 60 I hastened and did not delay To keep Your commandments.
The cords R3865 of the wicked have encircled me, But I have not R3866 forgotten Your law.
At midnight R3867 I shall rise to give thanks to You Because of Your righteous R3868 ordinances.
I am a companion R3869 of all those who fear F1342 You, And of those who keep Your precepts.
The R3870 earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O LORD; Teach R3871 me Your statutes.
You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word. 66 Teach me good discernment R3872 F1343 and knowledge, For I believe in Your commandments.

You are good R3874 and do R3875 good; Teach R3876 me Your statutes.
The arrogant have F1344 forged R3877 a lie against me; With all my heart I will observe R3878 Your precepts. 70 Their heart is covered R3879 F1345 with fat, But I delight R3880 in Your law.
It is good R3881 for me that I was afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
The law R3882 of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
Your R3883 hands made me and fashioned F1346 me; Give R3884 me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
May those who fear F1347 You see R3885 me and be glad, Because I wait R3886 F1348 for Your word.

Though I have become R3899 like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not R3900 forget Your statutes.
How many are the days R3901 of Your servant? When will You execute R3902 judgment on those who persecute me?
The arrogant have dug R3903 pits for me, Men who are not in F1356 accord with Your law. 86 All Your commandments are faithful; R3904 They have persecuted R3905 me with a lie; help R3906 me! 87 They almost destroyed me on F1357 earth, But as for me, I did R3907 not forsake Your precepts.

Highlights:
In this psalm the Word of God is exalted. Every verse in this magnificent psalm magnifies the Word of God. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men (John 1:1-4), and He (Jesus Christ) brings the Light of Understanding (the Written Word) to all who trust Him.
The purpose of the longest chapter in the Bible is to emphasize it as the only infallible Guide to Life given by our Creator. In it, God makes known everything He plans for us to be and how to accomplish the purpose for which He created us. It is equally emphasized how indispensable it is to know our Creator, Savior, and soon-coming Messiah King. The chapter opens with: Blessed (Divinely favored) are the undefiled (blameless, whose conduct is beyond reproach) in the way, who walk in the Law of the Lord. . . . and that seek Him with the whole heart (Ps. 119:1-2). The undefiled means much more than mechanically obeying rules and laws. We are specially blessed as we seek to please God with the whole heart.
Like David, all who seek God will pray: With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from Thy Commandments. Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee (vss 10-11). It is by taking daily delight in the Word of God, as much as in all riches (vs 14), that our fellowship with the Lord is assured. The psalmist continues: I will not forget Thy Word (vs 16). This kind of forgetting is more than a momentary memory lapse. It is drifting away and neglecting the things of God by becoming so involved in other interests.
Daily we need to pray: Make me to go in the path of Thy Commandments; for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto Thy testimonies, and not to covetousness (vss 33-35). As we do this, we have something to sing about regardless of circumstances (vs 54). The child of God can also say with the psalmist: Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word. . . . It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy Statutes (vss 67,71).
Though he had been afflicted, the psalmist did not find fault with God. For many of us, it is in times like these that we painfully recognize that our past wrong choices have led to unwholesome consequences. In such circumstances we realize that the Bible is priceless, for it alone reveals life's true values and prepares us for eternity. All who love the Lord can say: I rejoice at Thy Word, as one that findeth great spoil (Ps. 119:162).
Thought for Today:
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Rom. 8:26).
Christ Revealed:
By the psalmist who delighted in the Commandments of God (Ps. 119: 47). Christ said: I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me (John 6:38; 15:10).
Word Studies:
