Chapter 108

1 My R3519 heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul. F1224 2 Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn! 3 I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples, And I will sing praises to You among the nations. 4 For Your lovingkindness R3520 is great above R3521 the heavens, And Your truth reaches to the skies. 5 Be R3522 exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth.

6 That R3523 Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and answer me! 7 God has spoken in His holiness: F1225 "I will exult, I will portion out Shechem And measure out the valley of Succoth. 8 "Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet F1226 of My head; Judah R3524 is My scepter. F1227 9 "Moab is My washbowl; Over Edom I shall throw My shoe; Over Philistia I will shout aloud." 10 Who R3525 will bring me into the besieged city? Who will F1228 lead me to Edom? 11 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected R3526 us? And will You not go forth with our armies, O God? 12 Oh give us help against the adversary, For deliverance R3527 by F1229 man is in vain. 13 Through F1230 God we will do valiantly, And it R3528 is He who shall tread down our adversaries.

Chapter 109

1 O God R3529 of my praise, Do R3530 not be silent! 2 For they have opened the wicked F1231 and deceitful R3531 mouth against me; They have spoken against F1232 me with a lying R3532 tongue. 3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without R3533 cause. 4 In return for R3534 my love they act as my accusers; But I R3535 am in prayer. 5 Thus they have repaid R3536 F1233 me evil for good And hatred R3537 for my love.

6 Appoint a wicked man over him, And let an accuser R3538 F1234 stand at his right hand. 7 When he is judged, let him come R3539 forth guilty, And let his prayer R3540 become sin. 8 Let his R3541 days be few; Let another R3542 take his office. 9 Let his children R3543 be fatherless And his wife R3544 a widow. 10 Let his children R3545 wander about and beg; And let them seek R3546 sustenance far F1235 from their ruined homes. 11 Let the R3547 creditor seize F1236 all that he has, And let strangers R3548 plunder the product of his labor. 12 Let there be none to extend R3549 F1237 lovingkindness to him, Nor any R3550 to be gracious to his fatherless children. 13 Let his posterity R3551 be cut F1238 off; In a following generation let their name R3552 be blotted out. 14 Let the R3553 iniquity of his fathers be remembered before F1239 the LORD, And do not let the sin of his mother be blotted R3554 out. 15 Let them R3555 be before the LORD continually, That He may cut R3556 off their memory from the earth; 16 Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness, But persecuted the afflicted R3557 and needy man, And the despondent R3558 in heart, to put R3559 them to death. 17 He also loved cursing, so it R3560 came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him. 18 But he clothed R3561 himself with cursing as with his garment, And it entered R3562 into his F1240 body like water And like oil into his bones. 19 Let it be to him as a R3563 garment with which he covers himself, And for a belt with which he constantly girds R3564 himself. 20 Let F1241 this be the reward R3565 of my accusers from the LORD, And of those who speak R3566 evil against my soul.

21 But You, O GOD, the Lord, deal kindly with me for R3567 Your name's sake; Because Your R3568 lovingkindness is good, deliver me; 22 For I R3569 am afflicted and needy, And my F1243 heart is wounded R3570 within me. 23 I am passing like R3571 a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like R3572 the locust. 24 My knees R3573 are F1244 weak from fasting, R3574 And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness. 25 I also have become a reproach R3575 to them; When they see me, they wag R3576 their head. 26 Help R3577 me, O LORD my God; Save me according to Your lovingkindness. 27 And F1245 let them know R3578 that this is Your hand; You, LORD, have done it. 28 Let R3579 them curse, but You bless; When they arise, they shall be ashamed, But Your servant R3580 shall be glad. 29 Let F1246 my R3581 accusers be clothed with dishonor, And let F1247 them cover R3582 themselves with their own shame as with a robe. 30 With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the LORD; And in the midst of many I R3583 will praise Him. 31 For He stands at R3584 the right hand of the needy, To save him from those who judge R3585 his soul.

Chapter 110

1 The R3586 LORD says to my Lord: "Sit R3587 at My right hand Until I make Your R3588 enemies a footstool for Your feet." 2 The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter R3589 from Zion, saying, "Rule R3590 in the midst of Your enemies." 3 Your people R3591 will F1248 volunteer freely in the day of Your power; F1249 In R3592 holy F1250 array, from the womb of the dawn, Your F1251 youth are to You as the dew. R3593 4 The R3594 LORD has sworn and will not R3595 change F1252 His mind, "You are a priest R3596 forever According to the order of Melchizedek."

5 The Lord is at R3597 Your right hand; He will F1253 shatter R3598 kings in the day R3599 of His wrath. 6 He will judge R3600 among the nations, He will F1254 fill them with corpses, R3601 He will F1255 shatter R3602 the chief F1256 men over a broad country. 7 He will drink R3603 from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift R3604 up His head.

Chapter 111

1 Praise F1257 the F1258 LORD! I will R3605 give thanks to the LORD with all my heart, In the company R3606 of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great R3607 are the works of the LORD; They are studied R3608 F1259 by all who delight in them. 3 Splendid R3609 F1260 and majestic is His work, And His R3610 righteousness endures forever. 4 He has made His wonders F1261 to F1262 be remembered; The LORD is gracious R3611 and compassionate. 5 He has given R3612 food F1263 to those who fear F1264 Him; He will remember R3613 His covenant forever.

6 He has made known to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations. 7 The works of His hands are truth R3614 F1265 and justice; All His precepts are R3615 sure. F1266 8 They are upheld R3616 forever and ever; They are performed in truth R3617 F1267 and uprightness. 9 He has sent redemption R3618 to His people; He has ordained F1268 His covenant forever; Holy R3619 and awesome F1269 is His name. 10 The fear R3620 F1270 of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good R3621 understanding have all those who do F1271 His commandments; His praise R3622 endures forever.

Chapter 112

1 Praise F1272 the F1273 LORD! How blessed R3623 is the man who fears F1274 the LORD, Who greatly delights R3624 in His commandments. 2 His descendants R3625 F1275 will be mighty on F1276 earth; The generation of the upright R3626 will be blessed. 3 Wealth R3627 and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever. 4 Light arises in the darkness for R3628 the upright; He is gracious R3629 and compassionate and righteous. 5 It is well with the man who is R3630 gracious and lends; He will maintain F1277 his cause in judgment.

6 For he will never R3631 be shaken; The righteous R3632 will be remembered F1278 forever. 7 He will not fear evil R3633 tidings; His heart R3634 is steadfast, trusting R3635 in the LORD. 8 His heart R3636 is upheld, he will R3637 not fear, Until he looks R3638 with satisfaction on his adversaries. 9 He F1279 has R3639 given freely to the poor, His righteousness endures forever; His horn R3640 will be exalted in honor. 10 The wicked R3641 will see it and be vexed, F1280 He will gnash R3642 his teeth and melt R3643 away; The desire R3644 of the wicked will perish.

Chapter 113

1 Praise F1281 the F1282 LORD! Praise, R3645 O servants R3646 of the LORD, Praise the name of the LORD. 2 Blessed R3647 be the name of the LORD From this time forth and forever. 3 From R3648 the rising of the sun to its setting The name R3649 of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is high R3650 above all nations; His glory R3651 is above the heavens. 5 Who R3652 is like the LORD our God, Who is R3653 enthroned on high, 6 Who humbles R3654 F1283 Himself to behold The things that are in heaven and in the earth? 7 He raises R3655 the poor from the dust And lifts the needy from the ash heap, 8 To make them sit R3656 with princes, F1284 With the princes F1284 of His people. 9 He makes R3657 the barren woman abide in the house As a joyful mother of children. Praise F1285 the F1286 LORD!

Chapter 114

1 When Israel went forth from R3658 Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange R3659 language, 2 Judah became His R3660 sanctuary, Israel, His R3661 dominion. 3 The sea R3662 looked and fled; The Jordan R3663 turned back. 4 The mountains skipped R3664 like rams, The hills, like lambs. 5 What ails R3665 you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? 6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? 7 Tremble, R3666 O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob, 8 Who turned R3667 the rock into a pool R3668 of water, The flint R3669 into a fountain of water.

Chapter 115

1 Not R3670 to us, O LORD, not to us, But to R3671 Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth. F1287 2 Why R3672 should the nations say, "Where, R3673 now, is their God?" 3 But our God R3674 is in the heavens; He does R3675 whatever He pleases. 4 Their idols R3676 are silver and gold, The work R3677 of man's hands. 5 They have mouths, but they cannot R3678 speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see; 6 They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell; 7 They F1288 have hands, but they cannot feel; They F1289 have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat. 8 Those R3679 who make them will F1290 become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.

9 O Israel, R3680 trust R3681 in the LORD; He is their help R3682 and their shield. 10 O house of Aaron, R3683 trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 11 You who fear R3684 F1291 the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 12 The LORD has R3685 been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron. 13 He will bless R3686 those who fear F1292 the LORD, The R3687 small together with the great. 14 May the LORD give R3688 you increase, You and your children. 15 May you be blessed of the LORD, Maker R3689 of heaven and earth. 16 The heavens are the R3690 heavens of the LORD, But the R3691 earth He has given to the sons of men. 17 The dead R3692 do not praise the F1293 LORD, Nor do any who go down into silence; R3693 18 But as for us, we will bless R3694 the F1294 LORD From this time forth and forever. Praise F1295 the F1294 LORD!

Chapter 116

1 I R3695 love the LORD, because He hears R3696 My voice and my supplications. 2 Because He has inclined R3697 His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. 3 The cords R3698 of death encompassed me And the terrors F1296 of Sheol F1297 came F1298 upon me; I found distress and sorrow. 4 Then I R3699 called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beseech You, save R3700 F1299 my life!" 5 Gracious R3701 is the LORD, and righteous; R3702 Yes, our God is compassionate. R3703 6 The LORD preserves the R3704 simple; I was brought R3705 low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, R3706 O my soul, For the LORD has dealt R3707 bountifully with you. 8 For You have rescued R3708 my soul from death, My eyes from tears, My feet from stumbling. 9 I shall walk before the LORD In the land R3709 F1300 of the living.

10 I believed R3710 when I said, "I am greatly R3711 afflicted." 11 I said R3712 in my alarm, "All R3713 men are liars." 12 What shall I render R3714 to the LORD For all His benefits R3715 toward F1301 me? 13 I shall lift up the cup R3716 of salvation And call R3717 upon the name of the LORD. 14 I shall pay R3718 my vows to the LORD, Oh may it be in R3719 the presence of all His people. 15 Precious R3720 in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones. 16 O LORD, surely F1302 I am Your R3721 servant, I am Your servant, the son R3722 of Your handmaid, You have loosed R3723 my bonds. 17 To You I shall offer a R3724 sacrifice of thanksgiving, And call R3725 upon the name of the LORD. 18 I shall pay R3726 my vows to the LORD, Oh may it be in the presence of all His people, 19 In the courts R3727 of the LORD'S house, In the midst of you, O Jerusalem. R3728 Praise F1303 the F1304 LORD!

Chapter 117

1 Praise R3729 the LORD, all nations; Laud Him, all peoples! 2 For His lovingkindness R3730 is F1305 great toward us, And the truth R3731 F1306 of the LORD is everlasting. Praise F1307 the F1308 LORD!

Chapter 118

1 Give R3732 thanks to the LORD, for He R3733 is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 2 Oh let Israel R3734 say, "His lovingkindness is everlasting." 3 Oh let the house R3735 of Aaron say, "His lovingkindness is everlasting." 4 Oh let those who R3736 fear F1309 the LORD say, "His lovingkindness is everlasting." 5 From my distress R3737 I called upon the F1310 LORD; The F1310 LORD answered me and set R3738 me in a large place. 6 The LORD is for R3739 me; I will not R3740 fear; What R3741 can man do to me? 7 The LORD is for me among R3742 those who help me; Therefore I will look R3743 with satisfaction on those who hate me. 8 It is better R3744 to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man. 9 It is better R3745 to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes. 10 All nations surrounded R3746 me; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut R3747 them off. 11 They surrounded R3748 me, yes, they surrounded me; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off. 12 They surrounded me like R3749 bees; They were extinguished as a fire R3750 of thorns; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off. 13 You pushed R3751 me violently so that I was F1311 falling, But the LORD helped R3752 me. 14 The R3753 F1312 LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my R3754 salvation. 15 The sound of joyful R3755 shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right R3756 hand of the LORD does valiantly. 16 The right R3757 hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly. 17 I will R3758 not die, but live, And tell R3759 of the works of the F1313 LORD. 18 The F1314 LORD has disciplined R3760 me severely, But He has not R3761 given me over to death.

19 Open R3762 to me the gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the F1315 LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD; The righteous R3763 will enter through it. 21 I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered R3764 me, And You have become R3765 my salvation. 22 The stone R3766 which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. 23 This is the F1316 LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice R3767 and be glad in it. 25 O LORD, do R3768 save, we beseech You; O LORD, we beseech You, do send prosperity! R3769 26 Blessed R3770 is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed R3771 you from the house of the LORD. 27 The R3772 LORD is God, and He has given us light; R3773 Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to F1317 the horns R3774 of the altar. 28 You R3775 are my God, and I give thanks to You; You are my God, I R3776 extol You. 29 Give R3777 thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Highlights:

Picture David's mighty army as they go forth to battle singing Psalm 108! David prophetically speaks of Christ in His deity as King-Priest in Psalm 110. Let's rejoice with the psalmist in the hallelujah psalms (Ps. 111-113). Israel's God is contrasted with idols (115). I like: The Lord preserveth the simple (sincere) (116:6). Come and exalt the Messiah with us — Psalm 118 — for His mercy endureth for ever.

When Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, He fulfilled prophecy by the Holy Spirit: The Lord (God the Father) said unto my Lord (God the Son), Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool (Ps. 110:1). Jesus quoted this psalm as referring to Himself (Mark 12:36).

Israel, as a nation, rejected their Messiah King. But, the Stone (Christ) which the builders refused is become the Head Stone (Christ) of the corner. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. . . . Blessed be he that cometh in the Name of the Lord. . . . God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light. David then gives praise to God and we too can say: Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee: Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee. O give thanks unto the Lord . . . for His mercy endureth for ever (Ps. 118:22-23,26-29).

Jesus quoted this psalm, saying: What is this . . . The Stone which the builders rejected . . . is become the Head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that Stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever It shall fall, It will grind him to powder (Luke 20:17-18; Mark 12:10-11).

Paul quoted this psalm when he wrote to the Ephesians: Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints (believers), and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief Corner Stone; In whom all the building . . . groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord (Eph. 2:19-21).

After a miracle of healing, Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost (Spirit), said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel . . . Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole (well). Peter then quoted Psalm 118 when he said: This is the Stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the Head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:8,10-12).

Thought for Today:

And when He was at the place, He said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation (Luke 22:40).

Christ Revealed:

Christ quoted Psalm 118:22: The Stone which the builders refused (rejected) — to the chief priests and the Pharisees when they willfully rejected Him as the Messiah (Matt. 21:42-45).
