Chapter 60
1 O God, You R1773 have rejected us. You have broken R1774 F570 us; You have been angry; R1775 O, restore R1776 us. 2 You have made the land R1777 F571 quake, You have split it open; Heal R1778 its breaches, for it totters. 3 You have made R1779 F572 Your people experience hardship; You have given us wine F573 to drink R1780 that makes us stagger. 4 You have given a banner R1781 to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. F574 5 That R1782 Your beloved R1783 may be delivered, Save R1784 with Your right hand, and answer us! F575
6 God has spoken in His holiness: R1785 F576 "I will exult, I will portion out Shechem R1786 and measure out the valley of Succoth. R1787 7 "Gilead R1788 is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim R1789 also is the helmet F577 of My head; Judah is My scepter. R1790 F578 8 "Moab R1791 is My washbowl; Over Edom R1792 I shall throw My shoe; Shout loud, O Philistia, R1793 because of Me!" 9 Who will bring me into the besieged city? Who will F579 lead me to Edom? 10 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected R1794 us? And will R1795 You not go forth with our armies, O God? 11 O give us help against the adversary, For deliverance R1796 by F580 man is in vain. 12 Through F581 God we shall do R1797 valiantly, And it is He who will tread R1798 down our adversaries.
Chapter 61
1 Hear R1799 my cry, O God; Give R1800 heed to my prayer. 2 From the end R1801 of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; R1802 Lead me to the R1803 rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a refuge R1804 for me, A tower R1805 of strength against F582 the enemy. 4 Let me dwell R1806 F583 in Your tent forever; Let me take R1807 refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah. F584
5 For You have heard my vows, R1808 O God; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear R1809 Your name. 6 You will prolong R1810 F585 the king's life; F586 His years will be as many generations. 7 He will abide F587 before R1811 God forever; Appoint lovingkindness R1812 and truth that they may preserve him. 8 So I will sing R1813 praise to Your name forever, That I may pay R1814 my vows day by day.
Chapter 62
1 My R1815 soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is R1816 my salvation. 2 He only is my rock R1817 and my salvation, My stronghold; R1818 I shall not be greatly shaken. 3 How long will you assail a man, That you may murder him, all of you, Like a leaning R1819 wall, like a tottering fence? 4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight R1820 in falsehood; They bless R1821 with their F588 mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah. F589 5 My soul, wait R1822 in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. 6 He only is my R1823 rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God my salvation R1824 and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge R1825 is in God.
8 Trust R1826 in Him at all times, O people; Pour R1827 out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Men of low R1828 degree are only vanity R1829 and men of rank are a lie; R1830 In the balances R1831 they go up; They are together lighter than breath. 10 Do R1832 not trust in oppression And do not vainly F590 hope in robbery; R1833 If riches increase, do R1834 not set your heart upon them. 11 Once F591 God has spoken; R1835 Twice F592 I have heard this: That power R1836 belongs to God; 12 And lovingkindness is R1837 Yours, O Lord, For You recompense R1838 a man according to his work.
Chapter 63
1 O God, You R1839 are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; F593 My soul thirsts R1840 for You, my flesh yearns F594 for You, In a dry R1841 and weary land where there is no water. 2 Thus I have seen R1842 You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your lovingkindness R1843 is better than life, My lips will praise You. 4 So I will bless You as R1844 long as I live; I will lift R1845 up my hands in Your name. 5 My soul is satisfied R1846 as with marrow F595 and fatness, And my mouth offers praises R1847 with joyful lips. 6 When I remember You on R1848 my bed, I meditate on You in the night R1849 watches,
7 For You R1850 have been my help, And in the shadow R1851 of Your wings I sing for joy. 8 My soul clings R1852 to F596 You; Your right R1853 hand upholds me. 9 But those who seek R1854 my life F597 to destroy it, Will go into the depths R1855 F598 of the earth. 10 They F599 will be delivered R1856 F600 over to the power of the sword; They will be a prey R1857 F601 for foxes. 11 But the king R1858 will rejoice in God; Everyone who swears R1859 by Him will glory, For the mouths R1860 of those who speak lies will be stopped.
Chapter 64
1 Hear my voice, O God, in my R1861 complaint; F602 Preserve R1862 my life from dread of the enemy. 2 Hide me from the secret R1863 counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those R1864 who do iniquity, 3 Who have R1865 sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed R1866 bitter speech as their arrow, 4 To shoot R1867 from F603 concealment at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do R1868 not fear. 5 They hold F604 fast to themselves an evil purpose; They talk F605 of laying R1869 snares secretly; They say, "Who R1870 can see them?" 6 They devise F606 injustices, saying, "We are ready F607 with a well-conceived plot"; For the inward R1871 F608 thought and the heart of a man are deep. F609
7 But God R1872 will F610 shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they F611 will be wounded. 8 So they F612 will F613 make R1873 him stumble; Their R1874 own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake R1875 the head. 9 Then all men will F614 fear, R1876 And they will F615 declare R1877 the work of God, And will F616 consider what F617 He has done. 10 The righteous man will be glad R1878 in the LORD and will take R1879 refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory.
Chapter 65
1 There will be silence before F618 You, and praise in Zion, O God, And to You the vow R1880 will be performed. 2 O You who hear prayer, To You all R1881 men F619 come. 3 Iniquities R1882 F620 prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You forgive R1883 F621 them. 4 How blessed R1884 is the one whom You choose R1885 and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied R1886 with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple. 5 By awesome R1887 deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God R1888 of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends R1889 of the earth and of the farthest sea; R1890 F622
6 Who establishes R1891 the mountains by His strength, Being girded R1892 with might; 7 Who stills R1893 the roaring of the seas, The roaring of their waves, And the tumult R1894 of the peoples. 8 They who dwell in the ends R1895 of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn F623 and the sunset shout for joy. 9 You visit the earth and cause R1896 it to overflow; You greatly enrich R1897 it; The stream R1898 F624 of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, R1899 for thus You prepare the F625 earth. 10 You water its furrows abundantly, You settle F626 its ridges, You soften it with R1900 showers, You bless its growth. 11 You have crowned the year with F627 Your bounty, R1901 F628 And Your paths F629 drip R1902 with fatness. 12 The R1903 pastures of the wilderness drip, And the hills R1904 gird themselves with rejoicing. 13 The meadows are clothed R1905 with flocks And the valleys are covered R1906 with grain; They shout R1907 for joy, yes, they sing.
Chapter 66
1 Shout R1908 joyfully to God, all the earth; 2 Sing the glory R1909 of His name; Make His praise R1910 glorious. 3 Say to God, "How awesome R1911 are Your works! Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will give R1912 F630 feigned obedience to You. 4 "All R1913 the earth will worship You, And will sing R1914 praises to You; They will sing praises to Your name." Selah. F631 5 Come R1915 and see the works of God, Who is awesome R1916 in His deeds toward the sons of men. 6 He turned R1917 the sea into dry land; They passed through the R1918 river on foot; There let us rejoice R1919 in Him! 7 He rules R1920 by His might forever; His eyes R1921 keep watch on the nations; Let not the rebellious exalt R1922 themselves. Selah.
8 Bless our God, O peoples, And sound R1923 F632 His praise abroad, 9 Who keeps R1924 F633 us in life And does R1925 not allow our feet to slip. F634 10 For You have tried R1926 us, O God; You have refined R1927 us as silver is refined. 11 You brought R1928 us into the net; You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins. 12 You made men ride R1929 over our heads; We went through fire R1930 and through water, Yet You brought R1931 us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall come R1932 into Your house with burnt offerings; I shall pay R1933 You my vows, 14 Which my lips uttered And my mouth spoke when I was in R1934 distress. 15 I shall offer R1935 to You burnt offerings of fat beasts, With the smoke of rams; R1936 I shall make an offering of bulls F635 with male goats. Selah. 16 Come R1937 and hear, all who fear F636 God, And I will tell R1938 of what He has done for my soul. 17 I cried to Him with my mouth, And He F637 was extolled R1939 with my tongue. 18 If I regard R1940 F638 wickedness in my heart, The Lord R1941 will F639 not hear; F640 19 But certainly God R1942 has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. 20 Blessed R1943 be God, Who has R1944 not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.

Highlights:
The reason for praise to our faithful God is revealed in these seven psalms. They begin with thanksgiving for restored fellowship. Today's reading will put in your heart a desire to give praise and more praise to our marvelous Creator.
Because of Saul's relentless search and his efforts to kill him, David was forced to flee to a desolate area outside the promised land. Exiled from his loved ones and the physical advantages of the king's palace, he prayed: Hear my cry, O God; attend (listen) unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy (Ps. 61:1-3).
David was overwhelmed with sorrow and loneliness, even as any one of us would be. He prayed intensely, asking God to hear his prayer. But more than confessing his distress he expressed his confidence in God as the Rock that is higher than I. . . . a shelter . . . and a strong tower from the enemy. Although his desolate situation seemed like the end of the earth, David was confident that his True Source of protection and safety from his enemies was the living God Himself, who was like a great tower of protection. Making God our strong tower means recognizing that His followers are in the protective care of the invincible God. Depression and frustration need not exist in the life of one who believes that God is the strong tower in the face of evil forces. We have His assurance that no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly (84:11). Like David, we can depend upon the Lord for protection and provision, regardless of how hopeless our circumstances may seem, since the Lord has assured us: Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for Me? (Jer. 32:27).
Although David was forced to endure his difficult circumstances for many years, he continued to trust in the Lord: Truly my soul waiteth upon God. . . . He only is my Rock and my Salvation (Ps. 62:1-2). David then turned his thoughts to others who faced trials and suffering, and continued to encourage all of us to trust in Him at all times . . . pour out your heart before Him: God is a Refuge for us (62:8). It is sobering to know that everything we face in life is used of the Lord to prepare us for eternity. In every situation, good or bad, it is always safe to trust the Lord. We are reminded that nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ (Rom. 8:35).
Thought for Today:
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matt. 26:41).
Christ Revealed:
As the Rock — the unmovable, eternal, unchanging Savior (Ps. 61:2; 62:2,6-7). Jesus is the Rock of our salvation and that spiritual Rock (Petras) that followed (accompanied) them (Israelites) (I Cor. 10:4).
Word Studies:
60:12 do valiantly = gain the victory, do great things; 61:4 covert = shelter, protecting power; 62:9 to be laid in the balance = they prove to be worthless; 63:5 marrow and fatness = the richest of foods; 64:6 search out iniquities = devise injustices; 64:8 their own tongue to fall upon themselves = their own words will bring them to ruin; 66:3 terrible = awesome.
